Providing students items they need to attend school and be ready to learn.
Two Threadz clothes closets are available as a FREE resource for Tempe middle and high school teens from the Tempe Union, Tempe Elementary and Kyrene school districts (school ID required). Both Threadz locations carry a wide selection of new and/or gently-used items.
Look Good. Feel Good. Succeed in School!
In 2009, Tempe Community Council established a teen resource center after learning that some students were missing school because they didn’t have essential items to attend class.
Originally located at Evans-Compadre High School, the Teen Resource Center moved to its current location at Tempe High School. In 2013, thanks to the efforts of Tempe Leadership Class XXVIII, the new site was transformed into a trendy boutique through a class project. The group designed, fundraised, and revitalized an empty classroom into what is now known as Threadz. Since then, Threadz teen clothes closets expanded to a second site at Marcos de Niza High School in 2015, and a third location at Mountain Pointe High School, which opened in Fall 2022.
At any Threadz location, students can access a wide variety of new and gently-used clothing, shoes, new socks and underwear, personal hygiene products, backpacks, school supplies and more. Middle and high school students in the Tempe Union High School District, Kyrene School District, and Tempe Elementary School District can shop for FREE — all they need is a valid school ID.
By providing these essential items, Threadz helps remove barriers that keep students from attending school, ensuring their success all the way to graduation. The teen clothing closets not only help families save money, but they also boost students’ confidence and give new life to gently-used items that others can enjoy.
Funded and supported by community donations and volunteers, these amazing boutiques make a significant impact, benefiting hundreds of teens each school year!
